I'm speaking tonight at a Writers Unite to Fight Cancer publishing workshop held at the Shea and Pima Barnes and Noble in Scottsdale. The event is free with proceeds from book sales going to AACR.
I'm speaking about how I got my contract with Penguin. I've also been asked to talk about traditional versus indie publishing. Queries, agents, ebooks, small presses, and print on demand will also be covered throughout the course of the evening.
It's going to be a relaxed, informal evening with lots of time for Q&A. The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at B&N, Scottsdale Fiesta Shopping Center, 10500 N. 90th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85258. I wish you could all be there! If any of you are in the Phoenix area, I'd love to see you tonight.
Plus, We've got two tour stops. Today you can enjoy part three of my interview with Bonnie at Bonnie Gets A Say and my interview with Selene at My City of Glass--posted in both English and Spanish. (Thanks for translating me, Selene!) Huge thanks to both Bonnie and Selene for supporting the tour so generously.
And now for the pictures. I wrote the ending of UNBROKEN CONNECTION using Google Earth, but then I got to fly to Spokane for my high school reunion in Tekoa last summer. I rented a car and drove over to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and on down the highway to Lookout Pass. I stopped in Kellogg, Idaho and took pictures of the hospital. I revised the scenes so they are more accurate than the original drafts.
When my mother read UNBROKEN CONNECTION, she called me and told me once when she was driving over LookOut pass on the way to Spokane, she hit ICE in that exact place and almost went over the edge. My mom's ice became an important part of CAYMAN SUMMER. Bits and pieces--that's what all my books are!
Mormon girl Leesie has life figured out--until devastated Michael lands in her high school. CAYMAN SUMMER is the third novel in Michael and Leesie's romance that began with TAKEN BY STORM. My readers rallied around me—giving me the guts to release UNBROKEN CONNECTION (Book #2) independently. I launched this blog because I wanted them with me every step as I wrote CAYMAN SUMMER. I posted the novel as I wrote each scene. Now this blog is devoted to all things Michael and Leesie.

My City of Glass
Ooh, the blog tour is at another beautiful blog today, Selene's My City of Glass. I'm working on an interview with Selene, too, and will update you on when that will run.
Picture today are photos on found on the internet when I was trying to write Leesie and Phil's drive through Montana. I've made that drive but needed GoogleEarth's maps and photos to jog my memory. I love GoogleEarth. You can actually "drive" down the highway. I also found a live traffic cam on the top of LookOut Pass.
I drove up there and took pictures last summer when I went back to Tekoa for my high school reunion. I'll share those tomorrow. And then we'll be ready for CAYMAN SUMMER photos. I started the blog with most of those, but I might be able to dig up a few more great photos of Grand Cayman. And some shots of the cave Michael and Leesie hid in on Cayman Brac.

Montana is so beautiful. Here's Leesie's take on it . . .
Bald foothills turning green
and deep blue skies decorated
with white tufted clouds
tune my soul to
the joy of God's creations.
I drink like a child who's
played outside too long in the wind
and finally come home to supper.
Some of these water shots are the Clark Fork. They inspired Leesie to write,
I-90 twists and bends following
the curves of Clark's Fork--wild and white--
overloaded with spring run-off.
I wonder if Clark really loved Sacajawea
despite his wife and kids back home?
How could he do that? Sure he felt sorry
for her. I do, too.
We all do. But he had a wife.
Don't let Charbonneau hurt her, Clark.
But, geeze, go back home.

Back to Venezuela with Nyra and Hong Kong Temple with Michael
I'm back!! And very happy to take the blog tour back to Venezuela for a beautiful, touching review from Nyra Escribiendo! Nyra posted her thoughts about CAYMAN SUMMER in both English and Spanish, so I need you all to visit her blog and give her some love and hugs. I got all teary-eyed reading her post. Nyra is like so many of you--a golden reader, perfectly attuned to my books. Thank you, Nyra. Thanks to all of you. You warm my heart, and you're why I keep writing.
The next locale I want to share with you is the LDS temple in Hong Kong. That scene was one of the first UNBROKEN CONNECTION scenes that came to me. So, open your copy of UNBROKEN CONNECTION to Chapter 30 and read that scene again with these pictures in front of you. I still love Brother Gilbert. He's like many older Mormon men I've known--especially temple workers. So many started out just like Michael.

Gone with the Pen
I'm still at ANWA's very fun retreat--"Gone with the Pen." I went out for a beautiful early morning walk. Fresh mountain air. Warm pine scent. Restful. Still except for the birds and squirrels. I turned around to retrace my steps back to the cabin, and a deer bounded off into the woods. A few yards farther and I came across a second deer calmly nibbling on a bush. She stared at me. I stared back. I pulled my phone out to snap a quick shot of proof, and . . . I forgot to charge it last night and the battery was dead. I held my breath and smiled at the deer. She kept eating. I turned my phone off and on, and voila! I got a snippet of power and got this shot of her. I enlarged it some, but phone photos don't have the res to make them really big. I think you can see how bored she is with me.
I was fascinated watching her nibble at the bush. She kept stopping and staring at me. Okay. I get the hint. A little privacy, please. Wander back down the road with me. Breathe deeply. It's crisp and cool and perfect this morning. Leave the road and wander into the forest. Let your feet sink into the thick layer of pine needles and dead leaves. More Michael and Leesie memories tomorrow, but today I'm gone with the pen.

Hello from the Pines and Michael in Hong Kong
I left the cactus for the pine trees and am posting today from a cabin outside of Prescott and the ANWA retreat. It's beautiful, cool, and green. I need to take a hike so I can inhale the trees. I have to apologize--I couldn't post yesterday because our internet decided it wasn't in the mood the function. Yikes! So I need to catch up on the tour.
Yesterday, the tour returned to Bonnie Gets a Say for part two of the interview. She had some great questions on TAKEN BY STORM. Today, I revisit Margaret's blog for part three of my interview with her. Huge thanks to both Bonnie and Margaret for giving me so much time and space on their blogs. Please, stop by and check out the posts.
I'm heading out to take a walk--I'll bring my phone and take pictures so you can all see how beautiful it is up here.
The next scene in our scrapbook journey is Michael in Hong Kong. Add traffic, heat, humidity, the smell of Chinese spices, and boundless energy to feel like you're really there.

More tomorrow. I promise. Oh, the air is so fresh here and beautifully cool. I'm sitting on the back porch taking in the forest. I'm off for my walk. I promise pictures.
